This document is a position paper from the Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA) in South America on women and the human right to water.
Women’s access to water is the central focus for the Southern Cone region of South America. This position paper focuses on collecting the voices from the movements and grassroots groups to make visible how the human right to water is threatened in the region, and the differentiated impact this has on women, youth and girls. Through an investigative process, analysis and collective drafting, from GAGGA we aim to make visible the intersection between women and water. With this position paper, we hope to advocate at the local, regional and global level, thereby strengthening our work to ensure the sustainability and consolidation of the groups we support. Any approach or policy looking to address this issue, urgently requires the adoption of a feminist, socio-environmentalist perspective, from the Global South, for it to be complete, fair and just.
