GAGGA Turns 10: A Celebration & Invitation

Hello & Welcome!
As 2026 gets underway, our members at the Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA) are
thrilled to be marking a significant milestone: 10 years of catalyzing women-led, community-rooted
climate action.

A Decade of Impact

Systemic change happens when those most affected by the climate crisis — while holding the deepest knowledge on solutions — are given the financial resources to respond, along with access to decision-making spaces. That’s why GAGGA has spent the last decade catalyzing climate funding at scale and distributing it directly into the hands of women-led community-based organizations on the frontlines of climate change.

We’re deeply grateful for the ecosystem – the frontline partners and our network — who have linked arms with us along this journey, catalyzing climate action where it’s most effective, and led by those most affected.

Since 2016, we have built the infrastructure and networks that ensure women-led organizations can access resources and influence decisions that shape our collective future. Together, we have:

Mobilized €50 million to 2,590+ frontline partners across 60 countries.
Facilitated 175+ cross-learning exchanges, strengthening solidarity and strategy.
Supported 2,360+ advocacy initiatives, elevating gender-just climate action globally.

Moreover, through its publications and events, GAGGA amplifies the work of those most affected by
climate change and advocated for systemic change [access here].

An interlude & story

At GAGGA, we understand that ‘numbers’ don’t tell the whole story. As a funder, catalyst, and convener, GAGGA accelerates the work of women-led organizations that create a ripple effect of impacts across communities and time. Here’s one story of many.

In rural Nepal, landless Indigenous and Dalit women used to walk two hours a day to fetch drinking water. With support from the community-based organization Sahayatra Nepal, they organized dialogues with local authorities and successfully secured municipal climate funds for wetland and spring conservation. What was once a daily hardship is now a recognized right. This collaboration, supported by TEWA (women’s fund) and Prakriti Resource Center (PRC, an environmental justice NGO), shows how women at the frontlines are reshaping climate finance to meet their communities’ most urgent needs.

Next: Fund Forward

Much progress has been made over the last decade, but unfortunately, the climate crisis is outpacing our ability to respond. Furthermore, funding continues to prioritize selective solutions that fail to address root causes and often exclude those most impacted by and most effective at addressing climate change.

That’s why we’re excited to kick-start our next decade with a bold new campaign and calling on donors and champions to Fund Forward, scaling collective action and multiplying climate impact.

Fund Forward is an invitation to funders, philanthropists, and institutions, to see funding not as a one-to-one transaction, but as a multiplier — a catalytic act that scales collective action and fuels ripple effects across geographies and generations.

Fund Forward builds on GAGGA’s core mission: channeling resources to women, girls, and trans, intersex, and non-binary people who are tackling the root causes of climate change and building resilience for generations to come. The campaign’s goal is to shine a spotlight on this work, raising awareness of its urgency and catalyzing broader action so resources flow where they have the greatest impact.

An interlude & story

GAGGA partner International Association for Environmental Defense (AIDA) filed a complaint in 2018 on behalf of Indigenous communities affected by hydropower projects in the Ixquisis micro-region. Based on an investigation by Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism (MICI), it was determinedthat Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Invest had failed to comply with its policies in loans
granted to the construction company. In 2021, the bank announced that it would end its relationship with the client

Thanks to the advocacy of affected communities and supporting organizations, the bank also carried out a risk assessment of unfinished works left behind as part of a “responsible exit.” Although this represents a historic and innovative step, significant challenges remain to ensure the bank fully assumes its responsibilities. This outcome has been made possible through the continued support of GAGGA.
